success stories

Ford Motor Company with leaders in the Child Passenger Safety community and other partners, are giving away 2,000 booster seats to low-income families in Clarke, Mobile and Washington Counties.

A child’s growing years are an exciting time for parents. But they can also be a time of added risk, especially on America’s streets and highways. Studies have found that after age three, children run an extra risk of injury in car crashes because most of them ride without proper safety seats, ride unbelted or are improperly using safety seats.

Children need to use booster seats until they weigh 80 pounds (about 8 years old). That is when adult lap-shoulder belts are more likely to fit correctly.

To qualify for a booster seat you must:

  • Have a child who weighs between 40 and 80 pounds and who is less than 60 inches tall.
  • Must be a low-income family.
  • Have a lap and shoulder seatbelt in your vehicle.

The booster seat is intended only for children who weigh 40 to 80 pounds. The use of the booster seat outside of the qualifications listed by be harmful to your child.
