What is the Young Leaders Society?
Young Leaders Society (YLS) seeks to build a stronger community and advance the common good by inspiring, promoting and engaging the spirit of philanthropy and volunteerism among the next generation of leaders. The mission of the United Way Young Leaders Society is to engage the next generation of leaders to build a stronger community and advance the common good by inspiring philanthropy, volunteerism and community leadership in its members.
Benefits of joining YLS
This unique and dynamic group offers its members many ways to become involved in making a difference in people’s lives in Southwest Alabama. Monthly activities ranging from:
- Networking opportunities
- Volunteer & fundraising events
- Opportunities to form new partnerships with area business & community leaders
- Social gatherings
- Professional development meetings
- Educational opportunities designed to inform members about local issues and to improve their perspective on our community
- Be nominated for the “United Way’s Young Philanthropist Award.”
Who is eligible to join United Way Young Leaders Society?
Community-oriented individuals, between the ages of 21 to 40 years old who give a gift of $250 or more annually to United Way.
Just a contribution of $4.80 or more per week to United Way will help improve your community! Eligible donors are encouraged to check the YLS box on their pledge form to ensure they are invited to future YLS events.

| 2. | Allow a high school student to shadow you at work and show them how apply things you learned in school |
| 3. | Tutor at an adult literacy or technology program |
| 4. | Purchase personal care items such as deodorant, toothbrushes and soap and drop them off at the local homeless shelter |
