FUNDING PHILOSOPHY for Mobile, Washington and Clarke Counties

The United Way allocates funds to a broad mix of Community Partner agencies that respond to the health and human service needs of the community. Accountability and stewardship are achieved through extensive volunteer involvement in the Community Investment Committee. The United Way of Southwest Alabama allocation process is based on the following principles.

  • A set of priorities that evolve from planning, needs assessment, research, agency input and policy decisions guide the process.
  • Funds are distributed fairly and impartially, with the betterment of the broad community in mind. Community Investment volunteers, who make allocation decisions are very informed, trained for the task and reflect the diversity of the community.
  • The process will include various methods of allocating funds to encourage agency creativity, independence and responsibility and to provide the Community Partner agencies with the flexibility to respond effectively to needs and problems as they emerge.

Community Investment (CIC) Volunteers evaluates the Community Partner agencies for:

  • Need for services/programs that they provide
  • Effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery
  • Administrative and financial management
  • Involvement and participation with United Way
