Note from Campaign Chair

What does it take to build a healthy, strong, and successful community? While the issues in the South Alabama region are complex, the answer is simple, YOU. It starts with you--the people who live and work here!

Since its inception in 1926, The United Way of Southwest Alabama’s  (UWSWA) mission has remained dedicated to providing funding and support services to the best health and human service providers in our area. Bringing people, organizations, and resources together, United Way is committed to improving the health and welfare of the entire community.

United Way of Southwest Alabama’s focus in our community is to improve the basic building blocks necessary to create a healthier community: EDUCATION, HEALTH, FINANCIAL STABILITY, and BASIC LIFE ESSENTIALS.  We know when children have the skills to succeed in school, when families are financially stable, when people are healthy, and when the community can respond to extraordinary circumstances and events, everyone wins. A healthy community is a strong reflection of the people who care for it.

We can’t make these important improvements without you. Your annual gift addresses many pressing local needs  and positively affects the quality of life of people who live and work here. Consistent, annual support from businesses, organizations, and individuals allows UWSWA to support 52 local Community Partner Agencies and offer a variety of United Way programs including 2-1-1, Emergency Food and Shelter (EF&S), Student Funding Council, Earned Income Tax Credit and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, Family Wize Prescription Program, and Project Blueprint.

For information on running a workplace campaign in your business, contact United Way at 251-433-3624 or email campaign@uwswa.org. Contributions can also be made online. Your help is critical to making our community a better place to live for all.

United, we can make a tremendous difference for our community. We hope you will join us in 2011!

On behalf of the more than 125,000 local men, women, and children served each year by our United Way, thank you.
