Because of your support and
involvement, the future of United Way is bright. I feel
honored to be elected and am excited about serving as the
2008 chair of the Board of Trustees of the United Way of Southwest
Alabama.
Since 1926, United Way has
played a vital role in improving the overall quality of life
in our community. As a community we are stronger for
having a successful United Way. While that strength
is most obvious in times of trail, it is also evident when
volunteers are eager to help others and when the campaign
rolls around. We know what it takes to make lasting change
in our communities. With your support, I know that it
can be accomplished.
As we work towards community
and organizational goals, I recognize how important it will
be to continue to raise the position of United Way by building
strong connections with volunteers and donors and reaching
out to new segments of the community.
Giving does matter.
Raising funds to meet the most important needs of our community
is a core part of the United Way mission. Continued
focus on giving and careful stewardship is fundamental to
strengthening our community and improving lives.
We know that community problems
require community solutions. United Way is uniquely
positioned to convene, organize and leverage resources to
find those solutions. I might add that United Way is
also positioned to advocate for positive change both for individuals
in need and for the agencies that meet those needs.
Together, we will find the best way to do that.
If we do these things, we
can accomplish more than we can even imagine today.
All of us. Working together. It can be done.
Thank You,
G. Robert Baker, Jr.
